I have not had alcohol in over one year -  I was pregnant and am now nursing.  I was never a big drinker so not drinking was not a big deal but lately, I’ve been craving wine, bubbly and cocktails.  Maybe it’s the summer sunshine, or maybe just plain sobriety, but I would love to sip on any of these…

If you’ve ever watched a commercial for feminine products you’ve probably felt (a) alienated; (b) puzzled; (c) annoyed; or (d) all of the above. The traditional commercials are always pretty ridiculous… they look a little something like this:

So when I started seeing the U by Kotex Ads I started giggling and thought, “It’s about time!” I’m loving these ads. I like how they poke fun at other ads and are a bit more real and down to earth. I also really like the packaging. They’re bringing a bit of “edge” to the feminine products market with their black/bright colors. A welcome refresher from the baby pinks and powder blues.

Bravo to Kotex. Now if only every other product aimed at women would take note…

Frank Gehry is easily one of my favorite architects. If I could, I would design a trip around the world centered on visiting all of his buildings. A few years back, when I heard that Gehry had teamed up with Tiffany to create a jewelry collection I thought it was a brilliant idea. Several years strong, Tiffany recently launched its newest collection by Frank Gehry. It’s been a goal of mine to save up for a Tiffany piece by him but then I always get sidetracked by a pair of shoes or handbag. I think this is the year of Gehry. At the very least, I can get the silver ring to start and save for the big cuff.

I went to my local Target this past weekend and noticed new shopping carts that looked like they were from the future.  The lines of the cart are cleaner and more rounded.  No hard lines or corners on this baby - this is quite possibly the most aerodynamic shopping cart I have ever seen.  Target has always put a premium on design (look at all their collabs) and apparently the cart won some awards at the end of 2009 when they first started rolling them out (pun intended).  It’s nice to see a new iteration of something that we take for granted.  Yay for good design! See them for yourself at Target.

Just saw these pencils over on Nubby Twiglet’s blog and I LOVE them - for obvious reasons.  I need them, I want them.

The internet isn’t going anywhere - in fact, it’s hard to imagine life without it. For a relatively new “invention” the impact it’s had on society is tremendous. It’s too young to be considered old, but it’s been around long enough to have people start making movies about it.

Whenever a big event occurs it usually takes a few years to see the movies about that event come out (think wars, tragedies, etc). It’s been more than a couple of years, but we’re starting to see movies about our beloved interweb come out. There have been movies about online stalkers and murderers that involve the internet in the storyline but 2 recent movies pretty much revolve around the internet.

Middle Men (out today, August 6th) is about porn profiteers who made a killing taking credit card payments online. The Social Network (out October 1, 2010) is about the college student who created Facebook. I think it’s interesting to see when cultural developments become the subjects of films. These movies sound interesting but I want to see the story behind Google. Or, you never know, with all the notoriety that some bloggers are attaining, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a movie about bloggers coming out - only time will tell…

Saw this on Design Boom and had to share.  It’s an excellent ad campaign to illustrate the fine lines the new pilot pen can draw.  We all know how small Lego figures are so we know those lines are really fine.  When I see ads like this it makes up for all the stupid ads I see everyday.
